Every Child Deserves

a Chance to Shine.

A community-based school and rescue centre in Kibera, Kenya — providing education, care, and hope to children in need.

Our Story

In Kibera, poverty often steals a child’s chance before they ever hold a pencil. But for over 15 years, Future Stars has stood as a light — refusing to let poverty decide who gets to dream.

We started in 2008 with nothing but courage, a handful of volunteers, and faith in what education could do. Today, we are home to a full primary school, a children’s rescue home, and community outreach programmes that reach far beyond our gates.

Our mission is simple:

“Dedicating dreams for success.”

When a child joins Future Stars, they don’t just get an education — they join a family.

Our Projects

Real change begins when compassion meets action.

Every project at Future Stars starts with a simple question: “What do our children and our community need most right now?”

In Kibera, needs are many — food, safety, dignity, education — but what we have in abundance is heart. With limited resources and boundless determination, we’ve built projects that don’t just provide short-term relief, but create long-term hope. Each initiative is designed to give our children, families, and young mothers the tools to build better futures for themselves and their communities.

The Food Drive

For many families in Kibera, even one meal a day is uncertain. Through our Food Drive Project, we deliver essential food packages to the most vulnerable households. A bag of maize flour, beans, cooking oil, and sugar can mean the difference between a hungry child and a hopeful one.
When we hand over these parcels, we don’t just share food — we share dignity. Parents can rest easier knowing their children won’t sleep hungry, and students can come to school ready to learn instead of worrying about their next meal.

Holiday Treats for Our Children

At the Future Stars children’s home, we care for some of the most vulnerable children in the community — many without families of their own. Once a year, we give them something truly special: a celebration. We host a holiday meal and take them to a local swimming pool where they can play, laugh, and experience the simple joys of childhood that are too often missing in their lives.
For these children, it’s more than just food and fun — it’s a memory of being seen, loved, and valued. It’s a reminder that they, too, deserve happiness.

Menstrual Health & Hygiene Education

Periods should never stop a girl from learning. In Kibera, many young girls miss school every month due to lack of access to sanitary products and education. Our menstrual health programme brings together girls and young mothers for open, respectful conversations about hygiene, menstruation, and reproductive health.
We teach safe, sustainable practices and provide sanitary products so that no girl has to choose between her dignity and her education. These sessions empower young women with confidence, knowledge, and self-respect — because a girl who understands her worth can change her world.

Community Empowerment Partnerships

We believe that sustainable change happens through unity. That’s why we partner with organisations such as Kibera Action Foundation and Ismael’s Kibera Slum Tours to extend our reach beyond the classroom. Together, we deliver education, food security, and mental health support to families and men in the wider community — helping rebuild hope from the ground up.

Life in Kibera

Hope and hardship live side by side.

Kibera is one of the largest informal settlements in Africa — a place of incredible energy, creativity, and community spirit. Here, people work hard every day to build better lives for their families, often with very limited resources. Streets are alive with children playing football, small shops selling daily essentials, and neighbours looking out for one another.

But life here is also marked by struggle. Many families face extreme poverty. Access to clean water, healthcare, and consistent meals is not guaranteed. For thousands of children, education becomes a distant dream — not because they lack ability or ambition, but because survival often comes first.

This is the reality that Future Stars was born into — and the reason it exists.

Where poverty limits opportunity, we offer possibility.
Where hunger weakens hope, we provide nourishment.
Where children are forgotten, we remind them they matter.

Your support doesn’t just help a school — it strengthens an entire community. Every classroom built, every meal served, and every lesson taught ripples outward, helping families and children imagine a different future.

When you donate, you’re not giving to charity —
you’re joining a movement of hope in one of the most resilient communities in the world.

Lilian Ogola

I’m Lilian Ogola, Head Teacher at Future Stars Development Centre, where I teach Grade 1. I’ve served here for nearly 13 years and believe teaching is more than a profession — it’s a calling. Working in Kibera brings challenges, from irregular attendance to limited resources, but the rewards are immeasurable. When I joined, enrolment was low and absenteeism common; today our classrooms are full of eager learners. The trust and gratitude from parents, staff, and students keep me motivated to continue shaping bright futures every day.

Jenifer Mourine

My name is Jenifer Mourine, where I also teach Pre-Primary 1. I’ve been part of Future Stars for six years and have always been passionate about working with young children. What I love most is the supportive environment our school provides for both teachers and students. The Director’s enthusiasm for education and commitment to giving vulnerable children access to learning continues to inspire me every day. I’m proud to be part of this transformative journey and hope to see my students grow into confident voices for change.

Maisy

My name is Maisy, and I serve as Assistant Director at Future Stars Development Centre. I joined in 2012 as an administrator and, over time, found my true purpose in teaching. I now teach languages to lower-primary students and am honoured to be one of the longest-serving team members. Despite limited resources, Future Stars delivers quality education through the dedication of its staff. Seeing the difference we’ve made in our children’s lives fills me with pride and gratitude. As Henry Adams said, “A teacher affects eternity; they can never tell where their influence stops.”

Samuel Nabwela

I’m Samuel Nabwela, the Grade 6 class teacher at Future Stars. For the past three years, I’ve taught Science & Technology and Kiswahili, and it has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. I value the teamwork, collaboration, and sense of brotherhood that define our school. Teaching here has helped me grow professionally, intellectually, spiritually, and socially. Each day, I’m motivated by the opportunity to guide my students toward brighter, more meaningful lives.

Claris Anyango

My name is Claris Anyango, and I serve as both Head Chef and Matron at the Future Stars children’s home. I ensure that every student receives nutritious, well-prepared meals on time and help maintain a nurturing, structured environment for the children in our care. Beyond the kitchen, I provide guidance and emotional support to our residents, helping them feel safe and valued. For the past five years, I’ve dedicated myself to the well-being of every child, and it brings me immense joy to see them happy, healthy, and thriving.
